For retirement communities

Lasting bonds. Real agency.Deeper purpose.

A resident life that grows from within: residents create it and contribute to it, and Longtable carries the organizing.

What residents end up with

Known

Not recognized at the door. Known — by the same few neighbors, week after week, until acquaintances become lasting friends who expect them every week.

Needed

A lifetime of expertise, and neighbors who count on it. Someone notices when they are away.

A true stakeholder

Not only taking part, but starting, leading and shaping something of their own, with neighbors who share it.

Residents see who will be there before they decide to go, and when someone has been away, their circle is nudged to check in. Not another screen: no feed and nothing to scroll — the app’s job is to get residents into the room.

What a circle could look like

Examples. Your circles will be whatever your neighbors choose.

Why it matters

Loneliness is not always about being alone

It is about going unseen and feeling unneeded, and it can reach anyone, however full their days. Longtable helps communities answer that by helping residents build relationships that deepen over time, alongside everything you already offer.

What makes it different

Four principles behind every circle

  1. Intimacy and consistency. On Longtable, a circle is a small group of residents who meet on a regular day, the same faces each time — which is how acquaintances become people you trust: about 50 hours together before two adults call each other friends (Jeffrey Hall, University of Kansas).

  2. Shared identity, not only shared activity. A shared activity brings people into the room; a shared identity is what keeps them together. A circle becomes “us.”

  3. Reciprocity. One neighbor teaches knitting, another the iPad. Everyone is a valued contributor, not just an audience.

  4. Active stakeholders, not passive participants. People care for what they help shape. When residents lead, they own it, and it lasts.

What your community gets

More happens for your residents, and less of it falls to your team.

  1. Residents who feel at home

They take part, they stay, and they bring new residents to the community. Newcomers find their place quickly.

  2. More happens, with less to coordinate

Residents can start and run circles without relying on staff to organize them. Longtable carries the dates, the reminders and who is coming.

  3. Friendships that go with the resident

When a resident’s routine or needs change, their circle can change with them, and meet online for the weeks when getting out is hard.

What this means for your community

Benefits that build over time

  • A place residents speak well of

Residents who are known and needed are the ones who speak well of the place — to their families, and to the next residents.

  • Leadership shared by many

Every circle shares out the running, so more residents lead, and when a leader or a staff member steps back, the circle keeps going.

  • A home for every interest

A circle can be as particular as its members like. Four residents and one shared enthusiasm is enough.

Beyond the community

What residents know, shared well beyond the community

With Share & Learn, residents pass on what they know and keep learning themselves — one person to another, by request, and only when both agree. Residents can also join circles, groups and events in the wider community, and online with people far beyond it.

A space of your own

Your community, under your own name, for residents only

A page under your name and colors, invitation links you control, and circles private to your residents by default. Basic membership is free, and any resident can try full membership free — circles and Share & Learn included — before deciding anything. After that, each resident can take a membership of their own, or the community can join as a whole, at a reduced rate for everyone.

Built for the people who use it: large type, simple steps, and it works on any phone, tablet or computer. I will introduce it to residents in person or online, and help anyone who wants to get started.

Example: longtablecircles.com/communities/cedar-ridge — Cedar Ridge is a demonstration we built rather than a client. No feed, no advertising, nothing sold; everyone on Longtable is a verified real person, and addresses and ages are never shown.

A bigger vision for later life

Later life is a time to belong, and a time to shape what comes next.

Longtable is growing to serve both. We are building toward keeping family close; residents mentoring a younger generation who can learn from their experience; and a way for residents who want it to put the wisdom of their generation to work on the problems that matter most to them and their communities. Each leads to the same place: greater agency, deeper purpose, and a fuller part in the world around them.

These are directions we are building toward, not features available today.

What I am asking for

I would like to introduce Longtable to your community and your residents.
